A new dating site that campaigns against users rating people based on their looks has gone live today for those fed up of the constant rejection they encounter on ‘shallow’ online dating apps.

New site is encouraging hapless singles to embrace their ugliness and ditch mainstream sites in favour of its own, which will steer the focus away from dating people based on looks.

According to the site’s homepage, advocates apps like Tinder for attractive people or for “anyone in possession of their own selfie gallery” but warns that others are likely to be swiped left and forgotten.

It’s estimated that only 12% of swipes on Tinder actually result in a match – a statistic Uglyr are keen to use in explaining how shallow online dating has become. In a move to discourage users from selecting potential dates based on looks, the app has avoided using any form of swipe mechanism in its design. aims to be a platform for people fed up with the shallowness of other dating sites – somewhere they can be themselves without being judged – and somewhere it’s personality and interests, not looks, that count.

The site offers users a choice between two types of membership. Users looking for love are prompted to join Dating and those looking for something more casual can opt for the provocatively titled Hook-ups. The latter promises to cater for the “horny uglies who are looking for nothing more than a bit of no-strings fun”.

Site founder Tom Thurlow commented further on the launch of, “Our mission is simple. It’s to rescue the thousands of singles who have become cannon fodder on apps like Tinder.”

“Many singles are becoming disillusioned by online dating – and have simply given up altogether. To be judged instantly on your appearance without getting the opportunity to show your personality is a frustrating problem with many dating apps.”

“ pledges to be different by offering genuine singles a home to date, find love or hook-up with others who aren’t fixated on superficial qualities. Our users don’t come here expecting to take home a six pack – they’ll settle for a beer belly that can make them laugh.”

Do’s and Don’ts of Casual Dating

Casual Dating is becoming more and more frequent in this day and age. Especially with to help you find regular partners! So we thought we would give you a few rules to abide by when causal dating.

–          Stay casual! Casual means no expectations, no commitments and no demands. Don’t do anything you don’t want to do. Know what you want, say what you want, and get what you want.

–          Casual dating isn’t really the way to go about finding a long-term relationship. Not that it doesn’t sometimes lead to one!  Make sure you share your desires with your date. There’s nothing to be gained by keeping them quiet!

–          Don’t talk about your other dates. Your date probably has more than one partner for casual dates too, so there’s no need to make your other liaisons public. Women find men who talk about their previous encounters a real turn-off.

–          Whatever happens, stay cool. Follow your instincts. If you don’t think it’s working out, say so. Politely, of course. And respectfully. You want to be treated fairly, too, don’t you? Being honest and decent is imperative.

–          Listen to your intuition. If things don’t feel quite right, maybe you’re picking up something on a subconscious level. Only when you feel at ease can you be responsive to your date. Casual dating should be relaxed, never forced. It’s about fun.

–          Casual Dating can be addictive! Thanks to the internet it offers new experiences again and again. Spend a bit of time browsing through and you’ll soon know the kind of dates you’re open for and those you’re not. Think about how far you want to go. Casual dating doesn’t represent the same things for everybody. The internet will help you decide what you want and need.

–          Above all make sure you set boundaries. Setting will ensure that each person knows and understands what the other person wants and avoid any confusion from either party.
